TAR HEEL — Unbeaten Tar Heel raced to a 28-11 halftime lead enroute to a 41-17 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Nakina Tuesday night.

Levi Velasco-Garcia sparked the Panthers to an early 9-4 lead by draining a 3-point shot and 2 other baskets. Demarious Guions dropped in another basket in the 1st quarter.

Guions lit up the scoreboard powering in 4 baskets in the 2nd period. Cedric McKiver popped in a pair of buckets, and Velasco-Garcia, Jarvis McMillan and Jordan King pumped in a basket each. Velasco-Garcia netted a free throw as the lead grew to 28-11.

Carnell Lewis and McKiver banged in 2 baskets each in the 3rd period to stretch the Panther lead to 36-15. Lewis, McMillan and King threw in baskets in the final quarter.

Velasco-Garcia and Guions shared scoring honors for the Panthers with 10 points each. McKiver finished with 8 points, and Lewis added 6 points. McMillan and King tallied 4 points each.

Walker Smith and Kyrie Smith led Nakina with 6 points each.

Coach Ken Cross’ Panthers pushed their unbeaten record to 5-0 and will host Elizabethtown Thursday.
