CLARKTON — Bladenboro’s Lady Bulldogs raced to quick 10-0 lead and awarded their coach her first win over the Clarkton School of Discovery Lady Blue Devils.

“Good day to be a Bulldog!” said Coach Hayley Baxley. “First time I’ve ever been able to beat Clarkton.” As a player Baxley had to battle Clarkton teams that featured Jasmine Kemp and C.J. Melvin who later led East Bladen to 3 state championship games.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 6-1 and will entertain West Columbus Tuesday. The Lady Blue Devils, now 2-5, will host Tabor City Tuesday.

Allison Hickman sparked the early 10-0 spurt with a pair of baskets, and Adyson Carroll, Addison Wilcox and Venus Cortes tossed in a basket each.

Carroll and Maycee Kinlaw threw in 2nd quarter baskets, and Maleigha Chatman canned a free throw to push Bladenboro’s halftime lead to 15-4. Aniya Willis pumped in 2 baskets for the Clarkton points.

Wilcox popped in 2 baskets and a free throw to key a 16-4 3rd period Lady Bulldog surge. Hickman fired in 2 baskets, Kristen Singletary sank 2 free throws and a basket, and Amiya McCarty delivered a free throw and another basket for a 31-8 lead.

Willis and Hailey Taylor scored Lady Blue Devil baskets in the 3rd quarter. Kynzlee Woods rang up 2 Clarkton baskets in the final period. Imani Bowens swished a basket and a free throw, and Willis dropped in another basket. Logan Powers closed out the Bladenboro scoring with a 4th period basket.
