LAURINBURG- C. Haywood bombed in four 3-point shots and scored 14 points to lead Christ the Cornerstone to a 22-19 middle school girls basketball victory over Emereau Bladen Thursday.
Tatum Allen and Bristol Allen threw in baskets, and Taylor Dowless sank 2 free throws as the Lady Aviators grabbed a 6-4 1st quarter lead. Haywood delivered a trio of 3-balls in the 2nd quarter as Christ the Cornerstone took a 15-7 halftime lead. Tatum Allen made a free throw for the Emereau point in the period.
Vera Valentiner and Dowless tossed in baskets in the 3rd quarter as the Lady Aviators closed the gap to 17-11. Dowless and Greer Pope fired in baskets, Valentiner cashed in 2 free throws, and Dowless and Tatum Allen hit one foul shot each, but a Haywood 3-ball kept the home team on top.
Dowless topped the Emereau scoring with 7 points, and Tatum Allen and Valentiner followed with 4 points each.
The Lady Aviators, now 3-3, will host Alpha Academy Thursday at 4 p.m.
