CLARKTON – Imani Bowens and Nevaeh Brown keyed a 14-2 opening spurt that propelled Clarkton School of Discovery to a 38-27 Waccamaw Middle School Conference ‘A’ Division girls basketball victory over Tabor City Monday.

Bowens nailed a 3-point shot and 2 other baskets, and Brown tossed in 2 baskets and a free throw in the 1st period. Montiera Richardson threw in a basket, Elle Kinlaw popped in a pair of baskets and Tyliah Freeman added a basket to keep the Lady Blue Devils up 20-11 at halftime.

Richardson and Brown fired in 2 baskets each in the 3rd quarter, Kinlaw banged in another basket, and Brown and Freeman netted free throws to keep Clarkton on top 33-23. Brown, Richardson and Rahnyia McLean dropped in a basket each in the final period.

Brown led the Lady Blue Devils with 12 points and 4 blocked shots. Richardson filled up the stat columns with 8 points, 5 steals and 5 assists. Bowens tallied 7 points, and Kinlaw followed with 6 points and a team-high 6 steals.

“It was our defense that won that game,” said Clarkton Coach Hakeem Swindell. “I have a very special group of ladies who have worked hard all season and I couldn’t be more proud of my team.”

Clarkton, now 4-0 in league play and 6-1 overall, will host Nakina Thursday.

D. Johnson led Tabor City with 10 points.
