BLADENBORO – Nevaeh Brown scored 5 of her game-high 7 points in the 2nd half as Clarkton School of Discovery rallied for a 13-8 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls‘ basketball victory over Bladenboro Thursday.

Coach Hakeem Swindell’s Lady Blue Devils moved into 1st place in the Waccamaw’s ‘A’ Division with a 2-0 league record and 3-1 overall mark. It was the first loss of the season for Bladenboro, now 2-1 in ‘A’ Division play and 5-1 overall.

Montiera Richardson tossed in a 3rd quarter basket that put Clarkton ahead to stay at 6-5. Brown fired in 2 baskets and a free throw in the final period, and teammate Haley Taylor pumped in a basket for the final margin.

Brown and Taylor threw in 2nd quarter baskets to keep the Lady Blue Devils within 5-4 at halftime. Taylor finished with 4 points for CSD.

Cheyenne Reinhart sank 3 of 4 free throws in the 2nd period for the Lady Bulldogs, and Amiya McCarty netted 2 free throws to edge Bladenboro ahead 5-4. McCarty popped in a basket and a free throw in the final quarter and led Bladenboro with 5 points. Reinhart followed with 3 points.

Clarkton will host Williams Township Tuesday, while Bladenboro will travel to Tabor City.
