LAKE WACCAMAW–Aleigh Godwin threw in a pair of baskets, and Kayla Hall drilled in a 3-point shot to key a 4th quarter rally that carried East Columbus to a 19-15 Waccamaw Middle School Conference ‘AA’ Division girls’ basketball victory over Elizabethtown Wednesday.

Ellen Battle popped in a basket, and Aaliyah Monroe made a free throw for the only Lady Cougar points in the 1st half as the Lady Hawks built a 10-3 lead.

Battle tossed in a pair of baskets in the 3rd period, and Monroe and Sana’a Singletary dropped in baskets as the Lady Cougars sliced the East lead to 12-11. Singletary powered in 2 more baskets in the final period, but East Columbus pulled out the win.

Singletary and Battle shared scoring honors for Elizabethtown with 6 points each, and Monroe added 3 points. Godwin and Charity Bland led East Columbus with 5 points each, and Hall followed with 4 points.

It was the first loss of the season in ‘AA’ Division play for the Lady Cougars who are now 4-1 in league play and 5-3 overall. Elizabethtown will travel to Whiteville Central Monday.
