TABOR CITY — Ellen Battle worked the paint for 13 points Thursday to lead her Elizabethtown Lady Cougars to a 26-24 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Tabor City.

Battle and Sana’a Singletary powered in baskets in the opening period for Elizabethtown, and Battle added a free throw for a 5-2 lead. Tabor City tied the score 9-9 at halftime. Racquel Whittington and Zariyahh Riddy tossed in baskets to keep the Lady Cougars even.

Battle dropped in 2 baskets in the 3rd quarter, and Singletary and Morgan Hammon threw in a basket each. Whittington sank a free throw as Elizabethtown took an 18-13 lead. Battle blistered the nets with 3 more baskets in the final period, and Riddy netted a basket to keep the Lady Cougars on top.

Riddy and Singletary finished with 4 points each for Elizabethtown. Tabor City’s Number 10 led all scorers with 19 points. The names for the Lady Eagles were not available, just numbers.

Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars, now 4-1, will host West Columbus Monday night. Tabor City will visit Bladenboro Monday.
