WHITEVILLE — M. Weatherford and O. Young combined for 5 points in overtime as Whiteville Central squeaked past Bladenboro 29-27 Thursday in Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball action.

Hadley Dove and Addison Wilcox threw in baskets to keep the Lady Bulldogs even 4-4 in the 1st quarter. Another Wilcox basket gave Bladenboro a 6-4 halftime lead.

Dove and Amiya McCarty nailed 3-point shots that grew the Lady Bulldog lead to 12-8 in the 3rd quarter.

Wilcox tossed in 2 baskets and a free throw in the 4th quarter. Allison Hickman sank a basket and 2 free throws in the period. Adyson Carroll popped in a basket, and Dove added a free throw.

Young and P. McPherson rallied Whiteville with 3-point baskets, J. Harvey pumped in 2 baskets, and Weatherford added 3 points as Central tied the game 24-24.

Wilcox cashed in 2 free throws in the overtime, and Dove made one. For the game Bladenboro converted 7 of 18 free throws. Central hit 5 of 18 foul shots.

Wilcox topped all scorers with 11 points. Dove followed with 7 points, and Hickman finished with 4 points. Weatherford led Whiteville with 10 points, and Young and Coard netted 6 points each.

It was the first loss for the Lady Bulldogs, now 3-1. Bladenboro will host Tabor City Monday.
