ELIZABETHTOWN – Guard Aaliyah Monroe and Ellen Battle sparked a 21-3 closing run that rallied Elizabethtown to a 29-21 Waccamaw Middle School Conference ‘AA’ Division girls’ basketball victory Tuesday over West Columbus.

The visiting Lady Warriors stretched a 14-6 halftime lead to 18-8 in the 3rd period, before the Lady Cougars began forcing turnovers with their press and converting them into lay-ups.

Monroe drove for 2 baskets and a lay-up, and Sana’a Singletary, Battle and Arian Fields threw in a basket each as Elizabethtown sliced the West lead to 18-17 at the quarter break.

Battle pounded the boards for a trio of baskets in the final period, and Singletary and Monroe tossed in a basket and a free throw each. Monroe led the Lady Cougars with 9 points, and Battle and Singletary were right behind her with 8 points each.

Singletary popped in a basket and a free throw in the 1st half for the winners. Mariah Ward pumped in a basket, and Monroe added a free throw.

Skylah Collins topped the Lady Warrior scoring with 8 points, and Valaisha Murchison tallied 6 points.

Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars remain unbeaten in “A” Division play with a 4-0 record and are 5-2 overall. Elizabethtown will travel to East Columbus Wednesday.
