CLARKTON – Montiera Richardson’s basket in the final quarter helped preserve a 29-27 Waccamaw Middle School ‘A’ Division girls’ basketball victory for Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday over Williams Township.
The Lady Blue Devils carried a 27-18 lead into the final frame, but McKenzie Spivey and Chloe Cribb led a Williams rally that almost caught Clarkton.
Tyliah Freeman topped the Lady Blue Devil scoring with 10 points, and Richardson followed with 9 points. Teammate Nevaeh Brown finished with 5 points. Spivey’s 19 points led the Lady Aggies.
Brown, Richardson and Freeman tossed in baskets, and Brown and Richardson netted free throws as the Lady Blue Devils built an 8-4 lead. Freeman nailed a 3-point shot, and Brown, Richardson, Ellie Kinlaw and Kynzlee Wood threw in a basket each as Clarkton stretched the lead to 19-10 at halftime.
Freeman drilled in a 3-point shot and another basket in the 3rd quarter, Richardson flipped in a basket, and Haley Taylor made a free throw to keep CSD on top 27-18 after 3 periods.
Coach Hakeem Swindell’s Lady Blue Devils remained unbeaten in ‘A’ Division play with a 3-0 record. Clarkton is 4-1 overall and will host Tar Heel Wednesday.
