ELIZABETHTOWN – Iveonna Ward and Laila Smith combined for 32 points Tuesday to lead Elizabethtown’s Lady Cougars to a 45-12 Waccamaw Middle School Conference victory over West Columbus.

Ward topped the Elizabethtown scoring list with 18 points, and Laila Smith finished with 14 points. Zoe Smith tossed in 6 points for the winners, and Shabrea Geathers totaled 5 points.

Laila Smith threw in a pair of first-quarter baskets, and Zoe Smith nailed a 3-point shot. Geathers worked inside for an old-fashioned 3-point play, and Ward netted 2 free throws as the Lady Cougars built a 12-4 lead.

Laila Smith sank 2 field goals and 2 free throws in the second period, and Ward flipped in 2 more baskets. Teammate Ariel Cromartie tacked on a basket as the Elizabethtown lead grew to 24-6 at halftime.

Ward lit up the scoreboard with 3 field goals and 4 free throws in the third quarter. Laila Smith drained a 3-point shot and a free throw as the Lady Cougar stretched to 38-6.

Zoe Smith bombed in a 3-point shot in the final period, and Ward and Geathers added a basket each.

Beaya Nobles led the Lady Warriors with 8 points.

Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars improved to 8-1 in Waccamaw AA Division play and 10-1 overall. Elizabethtown will host Bladenboro Thursday in a game that will decide the AA Division championship.
