CLARKTON – A 12-run 5th-inning Clarkton School of Discovery rally overcame a 13-6 Elizabethtown lead Monday and lifted the Lady Blue Devils to an 18-14 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory.
Coach Melissa Singletary’s Lady Blue Devils improved to 2-1 overall and are 1-1 in Waccamaw’s Division A. Clarkton will host East Columbus Thursday. Elizabethtown, now 0-3 overall, and 0-1 in Division AA games will host Whiteville Central Thursday.
Jahzara Rouse sparked the 12-run inning with 2 hits in the inning. Maddie Hall slammed a double, and Zariah Dill smacked a single. Clarkton capitalized on 8 walks and 3 hit batters during the rally. For the game the Lady Blue Devils collected 5 hits, walked 15 times and were hit by pitches 5 times.
Zoie Durden struck out 15 Lady Cougar hitters for Clarkton and allowed 13 hits, 4 walks and 4 hit batters. Racquel Whittington struck out 5 batters for Elizabethtown.
The Lady Cougars had snapped a 6-6 tie with 7 runs in the top of the 5th. Racquel Whittington, Avianna Whittington, Sana’a Singletary and Gabbi West keyed the Elizabethtown rally with singles, and a passed 3rd strike, an error and a hit batter contributed to the rally.
Hall batted 2-for-2 with a double, 2 walks and 2 runs scored for CSD. Rouse finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 walks and 2 runs scored. Dill singled, walked and scored a run. Durden walked twice, was hit by a pitch and scored 3 runs.
Tiekerah Tisdale drew 3 walks and scored twice. Aniya Willis walked, was hit by a pitch and scored twice. Kynslie Kinlaw was hit by pitches twice and scored twice. Rahniya McLean walked twice and scored twice. Shenandoah Fowler walked twice, was hit by a pitch and scored twice.
Racquel Whittington batted 4-for-5, walloped a triple and scored 3 runs to lead Elizabethtown. West finished 3-for-4 at the plate, walked and scored a run. Singletary batted 3-for-5 and scored 3 runs. Avianna Whittington singled, walked and scored twice.
Calleigh Smith smacked a single, was hit by a pitch, walked and scored twice. Zariyah Riddy reached base on 2 errors and scored 2 runs. Kamariah Rhodie smashed a single and was hit by a pitch. Ny’asia Lyles walked and scored a run.
