TAR HEEL – Karli Priest pitched a one-hitter and struck out six batters to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to an 18-2 Bladen Five Middle School Conference victory Thursday over Tar Heel.

The Lady Blue Devils jumped on top with 5 runs in the first inning. Katie Evans drew a walk, and Mariah Smith cracked a single. Cydney Campbell walked, and Khadijah Jones and Quadasia Monroe reached base on an errors. All five of them came around to score.

Tar Heel trimmed the margin to 5-2 in the home first as Kia walked and Emily reached base on an error. Both of them scored.

Smith reached base on an error to begin the CSD second, and Jones walloped a home run. Alyssa Futrell reached base on an error and came around to score as the lead grew to 8-2.

The Lady Blue Devils racked up ten runs in the top of the third. AnnaGrey Heustess, Tara Rogers and Evans reached base on errors, and Smith and Campbell drew walks to force home Heustess and Rogers. Jones then slugged her second home run of the game to clear the bases.

Priest slammed a double, and Abby Collins walked. AnnaGrey Heustess delivered a single that scored Priest and Collins. Evans and Smith drew walks, and Heustess and Evans came around to score the final Clarkton runs.

Jones’ two home runs and 3 runs scored led the Lady Blue Devil hitters. Priest doubled and scored. Smith smacked a single and scored 3 runs. Heustess singled and scored twice.

Evans scored 3 runs, Campbell scored twice and Rogers, Monroe, Collins, and Futrell scored one run each.

Shelby Pharr handled the pitching duties for Tar Heel. Emily had the only Tar Heel hit and scored a run. Kia scored the other Lady Panther run.

Tar Heel will host Bladenboro Tuesday, while CSD will travel to Elizabethtown.
