CLINTON – Gracie Edwards and Tatum Allen combined to pitch a 1-hitter and strike-out 14 batters as they led Emereau Bladen to a 6-4 non-conference middle school softball victory Tuesday over Sampson Middle.
Edwards started and worked 4 no-hit innings in the circle striking out 11 batters and giving up a run on 3 walks and 3 hit batters. Allen pitched 2 innings of relief allowing 3 runs – 2 earned – on a hit, 4 walks and a hit batter while striking out three.
Taylor Dowless, Jaimee Perkins and Allen belted back-to-back-to back singles to start the game for Emereau with Allen’s hit driving in Dowless. Sierra Thompson who was running for Perkins raced home on a passed ball, and Allen stole home. Edwards reached base on an error and scored on another error for a 4-0 lead.
Mollie Sasser was hit by a pitch in the Lady Aviator 2nd inning, and Dowless reached base on an error. Perkins and Allen cracked singles that scored Sasser, and Dowless stole home for a 6-0 Emereau lead.
Sampson answered with single runs in the 3rd and 5th innings and scored 2 more runs in their final at-bat.
Allen and Perkins both batted 2-for-3 to lead the Emereau hitters. Dowless collected the other Lady Aviator hit.
