CURRIE — On Saturday, September 11 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., Moores Creek National Battlefield will be holding a “Patriot’s Day” living history event.

Patriots Day was first established to remember the victims of the September 11th, 2001 attacks. When the date was first established as a holiday, citizens were invited to “observe the day with ceremonies and activities…” In this spirit, park staff, volunteers, and other living historians will be offering a variety of living history demonstrations and programs at the park.

Demonstrations will include playing 18th century toys and games, a demonstration of a tar kiln and the naval stores industry, colonial medicine, historic weapons demonstrations, colonial beverages, candlemaking, and more.

The event is free and open to the public. For a full listing of event details, including times for the weapons demonstrations, visit Facebook at www.facebook.com/moorescreeknps or go to www.nps.gov/mocr. Event information will be posted as it becomes available.

To promote staff and visitors’ safety, masks are required in all NPS buildings, including the Moores Creek National Battlefield Visitor Center and Patriots Hall, regardless of location or vaccination status. Additionally, masks must be worn in outdoors spaces where physical distancing cannot be maintained, such as narrow or busy trails and overlooks.
