West Bladen grad Morgan Sweeney batted 4-7 with a double and 4 runs-batted-in as her Newberry College Lady Wolves swept a softball double-header Wednesday from Emmanuel College (GA) by scores of 9-1 and 8-0.
Sweeney drove in the tying run with a third inning single to left field in Wednesday’s opening game. In Newberry’s 4-run fourth inning, Sweeney slammed a double to centerfield that knocked in a run.
The Lady Wolves ended the game on the run-rule in the home half of the fifth. Sweeney drew a walk and scored the game-ending run.
In the second game, Sweeney belted a first inning single but was stranded at third base. In the fifth inning, the Bladenboro native raked a 2-run single through the left side. Sweeney moved up on the throw home and an infield out, then raced home on a wild pitch.
Sweeney, a 5-6 freshman, who batted second in the line-up in both games was the designated player in the first game and played second base in the second game.
