GOLDSBORO – It will be a battle of Eagles Friday night as East Bladen travels to Rosewood for a 3rd round game in the NCHSAA Class 1A State Football Playoffs. However, neither team’s offense is centered around its air attack.

Quarterback Kewone Maynor completed 2 of his 5 pass attempts last week in East Bladen’s 25-18 victory over Northside Pinetown. Junior Malaki Moore snared both passes for gains of 43 and 29 yards, and both catches led to touchdowns for teammate Masion Brooks, who scored 4 touchdowns and rushed for 135 yards.

Brooks has now rushed for 1,842 yards and 35 touchdowns as East Bladen has compiled a 7-5 record. Teammate Na’Toren Corbett’s 75 rushing yards against Pinetown boosted his season total to 539 yards. Maynor has completed 46 of 114 passes for 838 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Rosewood also sports a 7-5 record with playoff wins over Washington County 41-28 and Bear Grass Charter 48-17. Rosewood finished 3rd in the Carolina 1A Conference after narrow losses to North Duplin (39-32) and Lakewood (29-28). On Sept. 15, Rosewood shutout Northside Pinetown 13-0.

Junior quarterback Giovanni Pineda has connected on 70 of 147 passes for 1,249 yards and 20 touchdowns. David Lamm, a 180-pound senior, keys the ground attack with 1,643 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. Senior Micah Cox has caught 36 passes for 682 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Gametime is 7 p.m. Friday. Rosewood High School is located at 900 Rosewood Road in Goldsboro.
