CAMDEN – Camden County, the No. 2 seed in Class 2A East, defeated No. 31 seed West Bladen 3-0 Saturday in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A state volleyball playoffs by set scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-7.

“When you play the #2 team in the East and #4 team in state, you celebrate the chance to play,” stated West Bladen Coach Gaye Davis on Facebook. “These Knights didn’t win on the court as far as the score but let me tell you they played the best (they have), I think, all year.”

Senior Kiera Lewis slammed in 5 attacks, 4 kills and 5 blocks for West. Senior Trinity Meares smacked in 10 attacks, 4 kills, a block and had 2 digs. Senior Jenna McLean racked up 8 attacks and 3 service points.

Lady Knight senior Maddie Walters fired in 4 service points, 7 attacks and 2 kills. Freshman Greer Pope drilled in 3 service points including 1 ace and had 2 assists and 2 digs. Junior Marlene Crabtree hammered in 9 attacks, 2 aces and had 1 dig.

Junior Alina Chavez blasted in 5 attacks, 3 kills and a block for West. Junior Holland Davis spiked in 4 attacks and a kill. Junior Marlie Walters knocked in 3 attacks and a service point. Sophomore Emme Bryant came up with 2 digs. Sophomore Nataliee Sykes dished out an assist, and sophomore Jaylyn Clark had 1 attack.

“We will miss our 4 seniors (Keira Lewis, Jenna McLean, Trinity Meares, Maddie Walters) for sure and we can’t forget the best parents around. Thank y’all for all you do,” posted Davis.

The Lady Knights, who finished 3rd in the Southeastern Athletic Conference, completed their season with an 11-12 record.
