ASH – West Bladen rising sophmore Carley Dawson knocked in the game-winning run as Lumberton captured their second consecutive North Carolina Dixie Belles State Championship with a 4-3 victory over Brunswick County West Wednesday.
Carley Dawson, her sister Abby Dawson and Conner Brisson are current West Bladen softball players who have been members of the Lumberton All-Star teams that have won both of those championships.
Lumberton battled back from a 3-0 deficit to claim the title. Carley Dawson drove in the eventual game-winner in the top of the seventh inning.
Lumberton had defeated East Columbus 13-7 earlier Wednesday morning to advance to the championship game. Carley Dawson batted 2-3 and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the victory over East Columbus.
Brisson smashed a double to drive in a run then walloped a triple. She finished 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and an rbi. Abby Dawson slammed a double to drive in a run.
Lumberton advances to the 2016 Dixie Belles World Series that begins July 31 in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
