RICHFIELD – Elizabethtown’s sixth-inning rally came up just short Monday as West Robeson American held on for a 10-6 victory in the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball Coach-Pitch State Tournament.
West Robeson took a 10-3 lead into the sixth. Jayce Hatcher started the rally with a 2-out single, and C. J. McCracken reached base on an error. Brady Marlowe smacked a single that drove in Hatcher, and Isaiah Robinson reached base on an error.
Tyler Eason cracked a single that scored McCracken, and Collin Cole knocked in Marlowe with a single and trimmed the margin to 10-6. With the bases-loaded and the tying run at the plate, a force-out ended the game.
The loss eliminated Elizabethtown from the tournament. Elizabethtown had defeated West Robeson American in two out of three games to win the District 9 Tournament.
Elizabethtown scored their first 3 runs in the first inning. Easton Bostic smashed a double, and Hatcher drove him in with a single. McCracken laced a single, and Robinson’s fielder’s choice plated Hatcher. Eason connected for a single that scored McCracken.
Hatcher batted a perfect 3-3 to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Claxton Tatum also finished perfect at the plate with a 2-2 game. Eason turned in a 2-3 performance at the plate.
Bostic slammed the double, and McCracken, Marlowe, Cole and Braylon Cromartie contributed one single each.
