Lumberton National defeated Bladen County 10-8 Sunday in an elimination game in the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball State Tournament at Pembroke. The loss eliminated Bladen County from the tournament.
Bladen County scored 3 runs in the first inning as Jonah Bryan cracked a single, advanced on Aiden Russ’ fielder’s choice and raced home when Cade Allen smacked a single.
Conner Monroe knocked in Allen with a single, and Neveah Singletary belted a single and came around to score.
Russ started the Bladen County fourth inning with a single, and Allen drove him in with a single. Monroe laced a single that scored Allen, and Singletary blasted a triple that brought home Monroe.
The final two Bladen runs came after two were out in the sixth inning. Russ kept the game alive with a single, and Allen smashed a triple to drive him in. Monroe connected for a single that plated Allen with the final Bladen run.
Allen batted a perfect 3-3 with a triple, 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Monroe also drove in 3 runs with a perfect 3-3 day at the plate and scored 2 runs.
Singletary tripled and singled, scored a run and knocked in a run. Russ batted 2-3 and scored twice. Bryan and Richard Severine added one hit each to Bladen County’s 12-hit attack. Bryan also scored a run.
