Deborah Jane Smith Edwards passed away on Thursday, December 29th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 76. Deborah Jane was born to Wilbur and Lena Smith on December 16th, 1946, in Lumberton, North Carolina. She was the oldest of five children.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 38 years, Donald Franklin Edwards, Jr.; two children, Michelle King Moore (Lenny), and Brandon Earl Edwards; one grandchild, Saige Moore; four siblings, Wilbur Smith Jr. (Brenda), Sherrill Kinlaw (Craven), Ruby Paone (Martin), and Michael Smith (Sue), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will also be remembered by her cherished friends, Carrie Klees and Tracey Smith.
She is preceded in death by her father, Wilbur Smith Sr., and her mother, Lena Jane Pait Smith. She is also preceded in death by her two children; Wilton (Will) Nathaniel King Jr., and Tammy Jonel King.
Deborah enjoyed working with children and adults with special needs. She would always advocate for better services and care for those with special needs. She was a kind and loving person who cared for people going through hardship. Deborah also enjoyed spending time with her family – especially cooking rutabagas for her youngest brother, Michael, and her thin cornbread that Lenny loved. Her top priority was to make sure her son, Brandon, was taken care of and well-fed.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Lewis Cemetery on Cemetery Lane off Highway 131 in Bladenboro, North Carolina 28320. Arrangements entrusted with Triad Cremation and Funeral Service.
