This year the beloved event saw well over 100 donations from area residents and church groups with several newly added collection sites around Elizabethtown.

This year’s blanket drive was carried through the combined efforts of Roger’s sister Mariea Bryant along with her partnerships with the Bladen Journal and Bladen County Library.

Roger’s Wish has now felt yet another warm response from a caring public for the 8th year. The beloved event is named after it’s founder Roger Lee Theodore Grunder who started the blanket mission in 2013 through a partnership with his friend Curt W. Vincent at the Bladen Journal.

Roger lost his life just weeks into starting his mission and only two days after giving his heart to Jesus Christ. Curt Vincent decided to continue the mission in Roger’s name and in memory of his late friend .

Anyone who knew Roger would certainly tell you about his amazing spirit and his warm heart for others . The kindness that he was so well known for in helping others around him is what made Roger Grunder a Bladen icon .

Roger’s mission for helping those in need continues to this day.

Reaching out to others who are less fortunate than we are was always Roger’s Wish .
