Jeffery Bryan left the following message on our Guestbook page as a reminder about the 6th annual Roger’s Project.

“The 6th Annual Roger`s Project is ongoing now through October 18th at the Bladen County Library on Cypress Street. Bring your donations of blankets and sleeping bags to help keep the needy and homeless warm this coming winter.

Roger`s Wish started back in 2013 by the late Roger Theodore Grunder along with W. Curt Vincent at the Bladen Journal. After Roger lost his life in a car accident in the industrial park area just weeks after starting the collection drive, the newspaper decided to keep the drive going in his memory.

Roger`s Wish earned the Bladen Journal a second place award for best community project by a newspaper in a statewide contest following it`s second year in 2014.
Roger was memorialized with a rosemary and plaque bearing his name in the Bladen County Library gardens in 2014.

During the first 5 years of the expanding community project, Roger`s Wish collected nearly 1,000 donations. Both WWAY news and WECT news out of Wilmington covered the project in 2015.

Being involved with the annual project has been a most rewarding experience for me. Roger left us at the age of 39,but he is strongly remembered by many of us for his kind heart in helping others around him.

The annual Roger`s Wish Project is a nice way for us to keep his memory alive, while carrying a mission that he was so proud of at the same time.
God bless all who donate to Roger`s Wish.”
