Karlee Gause walloped a 2-run home run that capped a 3-run, 4th inning that propelled the Howlers to a 5-2 victory over the Stars Tuesday night in Bladen Recreation’s 8-10 softball action.

The Howlers took a 2-1 lead into the 4th inning. Maycee Kinlaw was hit by a pitch, stole 2 bases and darted home on an error. Hadley Dove laced a single and scored when Gause blasted a home run to right-centerfield to boost the lead to 5-1.

Gause also scored a 1st inning run when she was hit by a pitch, stole 2 bases and dashed home on a passed ball. The Stars Isabella Beard hammered a home run to centerfield in the 2nd inning that tied the game 1-1.

Hayleigh Simmons belted a single in the 2nd inning, advanced on a pair of passed balls and raced home on an error to put the Howlers ahead 2-1.

Beard cracked a single in the Stars 5th inning, and stole 2 bases. Madelyn Hall knocked in Beard with a single to trim the lead to 5-2.

Harper Ward collected the other Howler hit. Kinlaw pitched a 6-inning, complete game 6-hitter and struck out five to earn the pitching win for the Howlers.

Beard batted 2-2 with the home run to lead the Stars hitters. Hall also finished 2-2 at the plate. Landry Singletary drilled a 1st inning double, and Allison Hickman ripped a 4th inning single to centerfield. Hickman pitched a 4-hitter and struck out seven.
