CERRO GORDO – East Bladen connected for 17 hits and capitalized on 11 errors and 7 walks to defeat West Columbus 20-10 Thursday night in Waccamaw Conference softball action.

Coach Alan West’s Lady Eagles improved to 3-7 in Waccamaw play and 5-9 overall. East Bladen will visit Hobbton for a non-conference game Monday night. West Columbus drops to 0-8 in league play and 3-13 overall.

Junior Martha Simmons led off the game with a single to left field and raced to 3rd base on an error. Sophomore Niyah Wooten scorched a single to center field that scored Simmons. Sophomore Jenna Brice smacked a single to center, and freshman Tatum Allen walked. Wooten dashed home on a passed ball, and Brice and Allen scored on an error.

Freshman Jamiee Perkins smoked a single to the left side and advanced on an error. Sophomore Cabria Baldwin knocked in Perkins with a single to right then scooted around to 3rd base on an error. Freshman Taylor Dowless raked a single through the middle that plated Baldwin for a 6-0 East lead.

Iyana Lowery started the West half of the inning with a single, and Layla King drove her in with a double. King later scored on a fielder’s choice to trim the margin to 6-2.

Junior Mollie Tolar raked a single to 3rd base to begin the East 2nd inning. Wooten walked, and Brice slammed a double that scored Tolar and Wooten. Allen ripped a double to left that brought home Brice, and Baldwin belted a single that scored Allen and pushed the lead to 10-2.

A walk, a wild pitch and an error produced a Lady Viking run in the home 2nd.

Simmons was hit by a pitch, and Tolar yanked a single past 3rd to start the Lady Eagle 3rd. Simmons scored on Brice’s fielder’s choice, and sophomore Gracey Clark roped a single to left that plated Tolar for a 12-3 East lead.

Layla King walked, and Kaleigh Blackwell drove her in with a double in the West 3rd inning.

Wooten spanked a single to right to start the East 5th inning but was retired on junior Gabby Bray’s fielder’s choice. Clark and Allen drew walks, and Bray dashed home on freshman Nadya Colon’s fielder’s choice to pad the lead to 13-4.

Layla King and Hanna Lilly drew walks, and Blackwell knocked them both in with a single in the West 5th inning. Blackwell scored on a fielder’s choice to close the gap to 13-7.

Simmons reached on an error in the Lady Eagle 6th inning. Tolar walloped a triple to right that scored Simmons. Wooten’s fielder’s choice plated Tolar and increased the lead to 15-7.

Two walks, a hit batter, an error and Lowery’s single plated 3 more West Columbus runs in the home 6th and sliced the lead to 15-10.

Perkins smashed a single to left to start the East 7th inning. Baldwin reached base on an error. Perkins scooted home on a passed ball, and Baldwin scored on an error. Dowless walked, and Simmons hammered a double to center field that scored Dowless. Tolar reached base on an error that scored Simmons. Wooten walked, and Brice reached base on an error, before Clark’s fielder’s choice scored Tolar to stretch the lead to 20-10.

Tolar batted 3-for-6 with a triple, a run batted in and 4 runs scored to lead the Lady Eagle hitters. Baldwin turned in a perfect 2-for-2 game with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Wooten finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Brice was also 2-for-4 with a double, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Simmons batted 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and 4 runs scored. Perkins finished 2-for-5 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Allen doubled, had an RBI and scored 2 runs. Clark, Dowless and Colon added 1 hit each. Clark had 2 RBIs, and Colon and Dowless had 1 RBI each. Bray and Dowless scored 1 run each.

Wooten pitched a complete game for East and allowed 10 runs – 9 earned – on 5 hits and 8 walks while striking out 10.

Blackwell batted 2-for-4 with a double, 4 RBIs and a run scored to lead the Lady Vikings. Lowery was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Layla King doubled, scored 4 runs and had an RBI. Isabella Rogers went the distance in the circle for West Columbus.
