ELIZABETHTOWN-East Bladen defeated Union 4-0 Monday in a Four County Conference softball game that was stopped in the home half of the third inning by lightning and declared final by mutual agreement of the coaches.

Senior Miller Heustess pitched a 3-inning no-hitter , struck out 3, hit 2 batters and walked none to pick up the win for East Bladen.

After a scoreless first inning, senior Lauren Merritt drew a lead-off walk in the Lady Eagle second. A throwing error on freshman Anna Kate White’s fielder’s choice allowed Merritt to race all the way home from first on the play.

Heustess lined a one-hop single to the leftfielder to start the East third inning. Heustess advanced on a wild pitch and a passed ball, then stole home on the back end of a double steal with junior Emily Scott who had walked.

Scott went to third when the throw home got away from the catcher and dashed home on a wild pitch. Sophmore Faith Johnson walked, scooted all the way to third base on a wild pitch and scored on Shardajah Brown’s fielder’s choice. The game was stopped at that point by lightning.

Heustess batted 1-1 with the single, a walk and a run scored. Merritt, Scott and Johnson scored one run each, and Brown drove in a run.

The Lady Eagles improved to 4-9 in the league and 5-10 overall. East Bladen will host rival West Bladen Thursday on Senior Night at 6 p.m.
