FAIRMONT – West Bladen exploded for 11 runs in the 1st inning and rolled to a 17-2 Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over Fairmont Tuesday night.

Two-run singles by junior Kaitlynn Brisson and sophomore Gracie Faircloth highlighted the 11-run explosion. The Knights also capitalized on junior Kylie Durden’s double, sophomore Emmee Ward’s bunt single that plated a run plus 5 walks, and 2 passed 3rd strikes.

Junior Madison Taylor and Brisson belted 1-out singles in the West 3rd inning. Faircloth reached base on an error, and junior Mackenzie Singletary’s ground-out brought in a run. Ward yanked a 2-run single to left that scored Brisson and Faircloth, and Ward later darted home on a passed ball to grow the lead to 15-0.

Faircloth walked and Singletary was hit by a pitch in the Lady Knight 5th inning. Ward lifted a sacrifice fly to right to drive in Faircloth.

Durden pitched the 1st 3 innings and gave up an unearned run on a hit, a walk and 2 hit batters while striking out six. Taylor relieved and worked 2 innings in the circle allowing a run on 3 hits while striking out one.

Ward batted 2-for-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 4 runs batted in to lead the Lady Knights. Vendrick also finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Brisson batted 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Durden doubled and scored twice.

Taylor, Faircloth and sophomore Lena Trinidad collected 1 hit each. Faircloth and Taylor scored 3 runs each. Singletary, senior Briley Stanley and Trinidad scored 1 run each. Faircloth drove in 2 runs, and Singletary and sophomore Marlie Walters had 1 RBI each.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights improved to 2-1 in SAC-7 play and 3-6 overall. West Bladen will travel to Hoke County Wednesday for a 6:30 game.
