RED SPRINGS – West Bladen exploded for 13 runs in the fourth inning en route to an 18-4 Three Rivers Conference softball mercy rule victory over Red Springs Monday night.

Senior Conner Brisson reached base on an error to start the game, stole third base and darted home on freshman Hannah Pait’s fielder’s choice for a 1-0 Lady Knight lead.

West Bladen added 3 runs in the second inning. Junior Tatiana Hunt walked, and sophmore Alyssa Suggs smacked a single to left-centerfield. Sophmore Shelby Pharr’s fielder’s choice plated Hunt. Junior Kasee Singletary walked, and Brisson cracked a single that scored Hailey Guyton, the courtesy runner for Suggs. Singletary later scored for a 4-0 lead.

Red Springs sandwiched unearned runs in the second and third innings around a West Bladen third-inning run. Junior Alara Cashwell drilled a double to centerfield and scored on Hunt’s sacrifice fly in the third.

With the Lady Knights leading 5-2, Brisson blasted a home run to left-centerfield to begin the fourth. Junior Kyla Reed walked, and Hannah Pait reached base on an error. Cashwell knocked in Reed with a double to right-center, and Hunt yanked a single to left that scored Hannah Pait.

Pharr rapped a single to center that scored Cashwell. Lauren Pait laced a single to right-centerfield that plated Hunt and Guyton, the runner for Suggs. Singletary walked, and Brisson delivered a single to centerfield that scored Taylor Lewis, the courtesy runner for Pharr.

Reed was hit by a pitch to force home Lauren Pait, and Hannah Pait walked to force home Singletary. Cashwell reached base on an error that scored Brisson and Reed, and Hunt hammered a double that scored Hannah Pait and Cashwell to boost the lead to 18-2.

Red Springs scored twice in the fifth on 3 hits and a walk.

Hunt drove in 4 runs with a perfect 2-2 day at the plate with a double and 2 runs scored. Brisson batted 3-5 with a home run, 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Cashwell finished 3-5 at the plate with 2 doubles, 2 rbi’s and 3 runs scored. Suggs batted 2-3 with an rbi.

Lauren Pait finished 2-4 at the plate with 2 rbi’s and a run scored. Hannah Pait and Pharr added one hit each. Pharr and Hannah Pait had 2 rbi’s each, and Reed had an rbi. Guyton scored 3 runs. Singletary, Reed, Hannah Pait and Lewis scored 2 runs each.

Pharr picked up the win in the circle for West Bladen allowing 4 runs – 2 earned – on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out six.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights improved to 6-3 in the TRC and 8-3 overall. West Bladen will host Red Springs Tuesday night.
