FUQUAY-VARINA – Burlington Arsenal defeated Bladen County 6-1 Sunday in the StateWide Activities Committee 10U Boys Soccer State Championship Game.
The Arsenal jumped in front 2-0 in the title game, before Levi Velazquez answered with a goal on the kickoff. Velazquez then drilled in a tying goal, but the official waved it off because someone in the Arsenal wall moved. An attempt on a re-kick missed.
Burlington led 3-1 at the half. Bladen County missed out on a goal in each half that appeared to be pulled out of the net by the Arsenal goalie.
Bladen County reached the championship game with a 4-1 victory over Holly Springs in their semifinal game. Velazquez posted his 4th ‘Hat Trick’ of the state tournament with 3 goals in the semifinal win. Tyler Thurman fired in the other Bladen goal.
Velazquez racked up 18 goals in 5 games as Bladen County reeled off 4 straight wins before the championship game.
Members of the Bladen 10U Boys State Runners-Up are: Johnny Wilson III, Tommy Metz, Levi Velasco Garcia, Salvador Gonzalez, Owen Hall, Andrew Martinez, Tyler Thurman, Juan Miranda, Miguel Ventura, Roberto Sandoval, Diego Sandoval and Keithan Russ. Head Coach is Juan Miranda and Assistant Coach Johnny Wilson II.
