FUQUAY-VARINA – Nash County edged Bladen County in a penalty kick shootout Sunday to win the StateWide Activities Committee 14U Boys Soccer State Championship Game. The teams were tied 5-5 at the end of regulation play.

Alejandro Lopez fired in a ‘Hat Trick’ plus one of 4 goals to lead the Bladen attack. Kevyn delacruz Labra turned an assist from Lopez into the other Bladen goal.

“It was a great game,” said Bladen Recreation’s Dom Whittington. “I wish our team could have won it though.”

Bladen County rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Holly Springs 3-1 Sunday morning and advance to the championship game. Lopez knocked in the tying goal off of a feed from Kevyn Labra.

Lopez returned the favor with an assist to Labra who converted the pass into the go-ahead goal. Labra banged in another goal to pad the lead to 3-1.

Kevyn delacruz Labra led the Bladen offense with 11 goals in the tournament, and Lopez scored 7 goals in the 5 Bladen games. Bladen County’s only 2 losses in the tournament were to Nash County by scores of 5-4 and then in the PK shootout.

Members of the Bladen 14U Coed team that finished as 14U Boys State Runners-Up are: Damian Sanchez, Anna Marie Miranda, Gabriela Ventura, Alex Izquierdo-Hidalgo, Cooper Padrick, Aiden Russ, Connor Padrick, Jakeline Medina Leal, Alejandro Lopez, Jonathan Ortiz-Hernandez, Dylan Cruz Hernandez, Jason Martinez, Cade Allen, Justin Spaulding, Christopher Labra, Kevyn delacruz Labra, Collin Cole.

Head Coach is Simon Lopez Hernandez and assistant coaches are Eric Mendoza Sandoval and Erik Izquierdo-Cruz.
