FUQUAY-VARINA – Levi Velazquez fired in a ‘Hat Trick’ plus one of 4 goals to lead Bladen County to a 5-2 victory over SGAA (South Granville Athletic Association), Friday night in the opening round of the StateWide Activities Committee 10U Boys Soccer State Tournament at Fleming Loop Park.
Velazquez lit up the scoreboard with a pair of 1st half goals as the Bladen team took a 2-1 halftime lead. SGAA missed out on a tying goal before intermission that was nullified by a handball.
The goal that gave Velazquez his ‘Hat Trick’ pushed the lead to 3-1, but South Granville answered quickly with a goal that narrowed the gap to 3-2. However Velazuez drilled in his 4th goal to pad the lead to 4-2, and Juan Miranda tacked on an insurance goal for the winners.
Bladen County will continue play in Pool A of the round-robin tournament Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against Fuquay-Varina. At 3 p.m. Saturday the Bladen team will play Princeton in its final game in the round-robin portion of the tournament. Both games will be played on Field 1.
