ROCKY MOUNT – The Bladen County 14-and-Under Boys All-Stars won all 3 of their games Saturday in the Statewide Activities Committee (SWAC) State Tournament.
Alejandro Lopez recorded a ‘Hat Trick’ scoring all 3 Bladen goals in a 3-1 victory over Fuquay-Varina. Levi Velasco assisted on one of the Lopez goals.
Lopez blasted in a free kick for his 1st goal against Nash County in Bladen’s 2nd game. Velasco sent another assist to Lopez who scored his 2nd goal of the game. Salvador Gonzalez banged in a goal off of an assist from Damian Sanchez as Bladen County edged Nash County 3-2.
Bladen County shutout defending champion South Granville 2-0 to pick up their 3rd win of the day. Keithan Russ delivered an assist to Velasco who knocked in the 1st Bladen goal, and Lopez drilled in a penalty kick to pad the lead.
Bladen Coach Johnny Wilson praised JaDarius McArthur and Jason Velasquez for “their amazing game on defense” and Fox Sutton for his “excellent goalie play.” Sutton posted the shutout in the win over SGAA.
Bladen County will play Rocky Mount Sunday at 9 a.m. in a pool game before the medal round begins.
