Mayor Sam Allen called the Tar Heel Town Council to order at 6:00 pm Tuesday, May 4th with a full house for a change, as all Council members were in attendance. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and Mayor Allen provided the invocation.

The Board reviewed the April 6th minutes and the April finance report. There were no questions nor any discussion, and the Consent Agenda was unanimously approved.

With no unfinished business on their plate, the Council turned to the meat of the meeting – Ordinance 21-101, amending the Town Charter so that the Mayor and three Council members would be elected to concurrent four-year terms.  Councilmember Derek Druzak moved to adopt the ordinance; the motion was seconded by Councilmember Mike Underwood. The ordinance was unanimously adopted.

Mayor Allen announced that the Town’s mosquito sprayer had been refurbished by Adam Russ and was working fine. The Town was now awaiting calibration by the state inspector.

Additional discussion ensued to bring Councilmember Angie Hall up to speed on the upcoming First Annual Tar Heel Craft Show, to be held Saturday, June 26th between 8 am and 2 pm. There will also be a silent auction in the Community Building at the same time.

When first announced at a called meeting on April 27th, the anticipated craft show had 25 vendors already signed up to display their wares; a mere week later, this number has now increased to 32, and at that rate, the total could double.

As there was no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 6:17 pm.
