The bridge over Cape Fear River (US 701) is open and no plans for additional closures. Concerns about possible damage due to logs, and other debris in the area, apparently laid to rest. That’s good … that area no doubt has one of the areas highest traffic counts …even when the lake is closed. … Hat’s off to NC DOT.

A salute to Macon Hammond. … The young Bladen County man has refereed local sports for years. Now, a full fledged minor league umpire. Wish him well…

Dates have been announced for the Bladen We Care Gala fundraiser … ‘Glow Party’ … Friday, March 27, 2020. Will be held at Cape Fear Vineyard & Winery. … Tickets are on sale … $100 per couple. Proceeds benefit Bladen County folks suffering from mostly short term medical type issues. Before you hear from Hayes Petteway, Norgie Hester, Charles Devane, Billy Ray Fisher, David Cross, Mac Campbell, Anne Warner and others about tickets, I just happen to have a few and can get more … and they do as well. The Gala and an Annual Golf Tournament are the two annual fundraisers for the group…

WWAY had an interesting story recently. … Fletcher Collins has been asked to design, build and deliver caskets for the Kobe Bryant family, for Kobe, his daughter, Giannia, and seven others who were killed recently, in a helicopter crash in California. According to the article, Mr. Collins is with Glorious Custom Designs in Bladen County, NC and has been in the casket building business for several years. He will personally deliver them prior to Gianna’s funeral on February 24.
