RALEIGH – The aviation artwork of three North Carolina students is being recognized at a national level.

The National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) recently announced that Isabel Chang from Cary Academy and Yeji Na of the Cary Christian school, won 1st and 3rd place, respectively, in the senior category of this year’s U.S. National Aviation Art ContestJasmine Lee of Antioch Elementary School also secured 1st place in the junior category.

The art contest is an annual competition hosted to inspire and engage young people, ages 6-17, in aviation. North Carolina was one of many states to submit artwork following state-level contests and over 150 submissions were entered in the national competition this year.

“We are thrilled by the creativity displayed by all the students who participated in the 2024 Aviation Art Contest,” said N.C. Department of Transportation Director of Aviation Becca Gallas. “Their involvement not only lets them express themselves artistically but also introduces them to the world of aviation. It’s great to witness their enthusiasm and talent in action and we are excited to have such talented students from our state recognized on the national level”.

This year’s theme was “Air Sports for a Peaceful World.” Judging for the national contest took place in Washington, D.C. and was conducted by NASAO and its partners, including the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association (AOPA), NAA, Signature Flight Support, and the National Air & Space Museum.

The top three winners in the junior, intermediate and senior age groups will advance to the International Aviation Art Contest, which will be judged in June by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale
