ROCKY POINT – East Bladen’s girls rode a strong showing in the hurdles and relays to a 4th place finish, while the East boys did well in the sprints and the discus to place 5th in the boys’ meet at the 4th Waccamaw Conference track & field meet of the season Monday at Heide Trask High.
Host Heide Trask won the girls meet with 160 points followed by Pender (155), Whiteville (126), East Bladen (77), East Columbus (26) and South Columbus (25).
Trask also won the boys meet with 170 points followed by Pender (124), Whiteville (122), South Columbus (93), East Bladen (84) and East Columbus (12).
Winning events for the Eagle boys were junior Chace Butler in both the 100 and 200 meter sprints and senior Jaden Pridgen in the discus. The East Bladen 4×100 meter relay team (Butler, Matthew Kemp, Tevin McLean, Maison Brooks and Jayden Dailey) also won.
In the girls meet, junior Laila Smith won the 100 meter hurdles, and Layla Lent finished 2nd in the 300-meter hurdles.
Three Lady Eagle relay teams claimed 2nd place finishes: the 4×100 meter (Trinity Kemp, Nyasia Banks, Zahreonna Baldwin, Ariel Cromartie and Laila Smith), the 4×200 meter (Kemp, Baldwin, Banks, Cromartie and Smith) and the 4×400 meter (Naiherna Leach, Malay’jah Gillespie, Tyliah Freeman and Alyssa Stringfield).
