CLINTON – Clinton’s boys rode a strong showing in the jumping events to a 90-78 victory over West Bladen Thursday in a Southeastern Athletic Conference track & field meet. The Clinton girls rode a 56-15 advantage in the sprints and distance races to a 96-83 win over the Lady Knights.
St. Pauls placed 3rd in both meets, and Fairmont only fielded a boys’ team and finished 4th.
West Bladen senior Malijah McKoy won both the 100 and 200 meter sprints. Knight junior Demon’tre Love won both the 800 meter and 1600 meter races. West Bladen senior Deyon McDonald won both the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdles.
Knight senior Cornelius Esters won the long jump, and senior teammate Iyan Phillips took 1st place in the discus. West senior Christopher Perez won the shot put. The 4×400 meter relay team claimed a 2nd place finish, and sophomore Justin Spaulding finished 2nd in the triple jump.
West Bladen senior Trinity VanEyken won both the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles in the girls meet, and junior Alina Chavez took 1st place honors in both the discus and the shot put. Freshman Janiya McKeithan won the triple jump, and the 4×100 meter relay team also won.
Senior Kiera Lewis posted 2nd place finishes in the 100 meters and the long jump. Sophomore Tah’lela Bethea recorded a 2nd place finish in the high jump, and senior Harmony Jacobs took 2nd place in the shot put. The West Bladen 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800 meter relay teams all finished 2nd in their events.
