Today makes two years since Bladen County native, North Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Kevin Conner, was killed in the line of duty. The day was bitter sweet as the Trooper Kevin Conner Memorial Run had almost 400 people participate in the event.

The Trooper Kevin Conner Memorial Foundation was formed to honor his legacy. NC Highway Patrol Troopers and Trooper Conner’s family gathered to thank those in attendance before the race began.

The foundation donates scholarships to Bladen and Columbus County high school seniors. Sealey Sessions, daughter of Scott and Amy Sessions and Gabriel Barber, son of George and Sonya Barber were this year’s scholarship winners. The two took the stage with the family and participated in the event.

This year, due to COVID-19, safety measures were in place and a virtual option was offered. There were over 400 registered for the event.

The race was held in downtown Whiteville, NC, at 422 S Madison Street.
