BOLIVIA – Former West Bladen basketball star Tyre Boykin has been a solid performer this season for the Brunswick Community College Dolphins averaging 10 points, 3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game for the Dolphins who currently own a 7-4 Region X record and a 14-10 overall mark.

Boykin, who graduated from West Bladen in 2020, has started 21 games, played in 22 games and is shooting 41.5 per cent from the field and 36.2 per cent from 3-point range. The White Oak native has scored in double-figures in 11 games.

In a 92-80 win over Cape Fear Community College, Boykin connected on 6 of 8 3-point shots for a season high 24 points and contributed 6 rebounds and 3 assists. The sophomore guard fired in five 3-point shots and scored 20 points in a 93-73 win over Central Carolina Community College.

Boykin connected on 4 3-point shots and tallied 19 points in a 78-74 victory over East Georgia State College. In a 91-81 win over Denmark, SC Technical College, Boykin drained 4 3-pointers and scored 16 points.

Other top performances by Boykin included: 13 points and 7 rebounds in a 75-65 loss to Community College of Baltimore County-Catonville, MD; 13 points in a 66-63 win over USC-Salkehatchie; 10 points and 5 rebounds in a 73-69 win over Gaston College; 12 points and 4 rebounds in another 96-69 victory over USC-Salkehatchie.

Boykin came off the bench to score a key 10 points in a 79-73 win over Spartanburg Methodist and rang up 12 points in a 64-50 loss to South Georgia State. He also had 12 points in a 75-65 loss at Richard Bland.

After averaging 26.1 points per game his senior year at West Bladen, Boykin earned conference Player of the Year and all-conference honors. He signed with Missouri-Kansas City but transferred at the 2020-21 semester break to UNC-Pembroke where he averaged playing only 3 minutes per game in his 18 appearances for the Braves during the 2021-2022 season.

Boykin suffered a severe leg injury that kept him sidelined for the 2022-2023 season but has battled back to be a regular for the Dolphins of Brunswick Community College.
