West Bladen’s Knights started their official fall football practice season Thursday and things went well, according to new head coach Jon Sherman.

“We had a good practice,” said Coach Sherman. “We had about 50 jayvee and varsity players. Those numbers need to rise, and we will work on that.”

The lightning and stormy weather forced the Knights to move inside later in the practice. “We got our conditioning and football drills in, before we had to move inside,” added Sherman.

The Knights have scrimmages scheduled at Douglas Byrd on August 10 from 9-11:30 a.m. and at Wilmington Ashley on August 13 at 6 p.m. “We were kind of late getting into the scheduling process because of when we started the job, but hopefully we can get back into the Cumberland County Jamboree next year,” said Coach Sherman.

Coach Sherman added that due to the closing of South Robeson High the Knights will play Red Springs twice this season – at West Bladen on September 6 and at Red Springs on September 20. One of those games will be a non-conference game. The Knights will have an open date on October 4.
