ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen’s Eagles pounded out 12 hits and rolled to a 12-4 non-conference jayvee baseball victory over South Columbus Tuesday.
The Eagles took charge early as Tyler Johnson led off with a single and raced home when Darius Williamson crushed a triple. Weston Hatcher knocked in Williamson with a single. Zamar Lewis walked, and Parker Green belted a single that plated Hatcher. Lewis scooted home on Britt Sasser’s fielder’s choice to complete a 4-run, 1st inning.
East Bladen tacked on a trio of runs in the 2nd inning. Natoren Corbett walked but was retired on Johnson’s fielder’s choice. Williamson crushed a double, and Hatcher delivered a single that scored Johnson and Williamson. Lewis walked, and Greene smacked a single that scored Hatcher.
The Eagles broke the game open with 5 runs in the 4th inning. Lewis and Greene were hit by pitches,and Sasser smashed a single. Tatum’s fielder’s choice retired Lewis, but Lee Barnes and Corbett laced singles as Greene, Sasser and Tatum scored. Johnson slugged a double that scored Barnes and Corbett.
Williamson clobbered a double and a triple and scored twice to lead the Eagle hitters. Hatcher batted 2-for-3 and scored twice. Greene finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored. Barnes was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Johnson hammered a double and finished 2-for-4 with 3 runs scored. Sasser and Corbett both singled and scored runs. Lewis and Tatum also scored runs.
Sasser pitched the 1st 4 innings to pick up the victory for East Bladen. Carson Gooden relieved and pitched the final 2 innings.
Coach Kenzil McCall’s Eagles improved to 3-0 and will host East Columbus Friday.
