BLADENBORO – Evan Thompson and Brady Holcomb combined to pitch a 5-inning, 1-hitter and led West Columbus to a 7-1 non-conference jayvee baseball victory over West Bladen Tuesday.

Thompson pitched 3.2 innings and struck out 8 batters while allowing a run on a hit and 3 walks. Holcomb relieved and worked 1.1 scoreless, hitless innings on the hill while striking out 2.

Holcomb batted 2-for-2 with a double, a run batted in and 3 runs scored. Teammate James Craven Axelberg finished 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Jordan Hester started on the mound for the Knights and worked 2.2 innings allowing 6 runs – 4 earned – on 4 hits and 3 walks. Kaden Revels relieved and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 2. Aaron Wren pitched a hitless inning and gave up a run on a walk while striking out one.

A hit batter, singles by Holcomb and Axelberg and an error vaulted the Vikings in front 2-0 in the 2nd inning. Two walks, singles by Maddox Coleman and Axelberg and Holcomb’s run-scoring double stretched the West Columbus lead to 6-0 in the 3rd inning.

Jamarh Richardson smacked a single to centerfield in the West Bladen 4th inning, stole 2nd base and eventually scored the 1st Knight run.

Holcomb was hit by a pitch in the 5th inning and scored on a wild pitch.

West Bladen, now 1-1, will travel to Red Springs Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game.
