East Bladen’s Eagles (14-6) entertain First Flight (12-8) in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A baseball play-offs.
The Eagles tied West Bladen for second place in the Four County Conference behind Midway. Two of the Eagle losses were to Midway and two others were to non-conference foe St. Pauls.
Junior Xavier Wooten is expected to make the start for the Eagles. He will be backed up by junior Sincere Smith and sophmore Pierce Melvin.
Senior catcher Kyle Tatum who slugged a home run at Union last week has headlined the Eagle offense all season along with shortstop Smith. Other Eagle leading hitters include Wooten, junior centerfielder Brooks McGill and junior thirdbaseman Deondre Newkirk.
Senior Braxton Hughes leads the Nighthawk hitters with a .448 batting average and 23 runs batted in. Senior Luke Golliday owns a .385 average. Senior Greyson Shier sports a .367 average, and senior Ryan Gallaccio follows with a .357 average and 18 rbi’s. Senior Allen Eure is batting .321.
Gallaccio has posted a 4-4 pitching record and 3.03 Earned Run Average. Junior Mannon Haynes sports a 3-1 record and miniscule 0.80 ERA, and Golliday is 2-2 with a 1.80 ERA.
