PEMBROKE – West Bladen grad Abbey Walters pitched the second no-hitter of her UNC-Pembroke career Saturday as the Lady Braves pounded Barton 13-0 in the first game of a double-header sweep.
 
Walters raised her record on the season to 4-0, struck out 7 and walked one as she lowered her Earned Run Average to 0.54 – fifth best in the Peach Belt Conference.
 
At the plate Walters batted 2-2 in the first game with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and a  run batted in. The senior pitcher was hit by a pitch and scored in the first inning, hammered a double to left-centerfield in the second to knock in a run and later scored. Walters ripped a double to left field in the fourth and scored.
 
The Lady Braves won the second game by an identical 13-0 score. Walters knocked in a run with a double to left-centerfield in the first inning and later scored.
 
The Bladenboro native slammed a double to left-centerfield to drive in a run in the second and later scored then lifted a sacrifice fly to rightfield that plated a run in the third. For the double-header, Walters batted 4-4 with 4 doubles, 4 rbi’s and 5 runs scored. 
 
On Thursday the Lady Braves swept a double-header from Queens in Charlotte by scores of 4-2 and 16-3. Walters lined a one-out double to rightfield in the sixth inning of the first game and scored ahead of Taylor Gephart’s home run that tied the game. She also cracked a seventh inning single and finished 2-4 at the plate.
 
In the Thursday’s second game, Walters batted 4-4 with 3 home runs, 4 runs scored and 5 rbi’s. In the first inning she blasted a 2-run homer over the left field fence.
 
Walters belted a single to right-centerfield in the third and scored a run. She walloped a solo homer over the leftfield fence in the fourth and slugged a 2-run homer over the centerfield fence in the fifth inning.
 
She now leads the Peach Belt Conference with 16 rbi’s and 5 home runs and has a .563 batting average.
 
The Lady Braves have won 5 straight games to raise their record to 7-2. UNC-Pembroke will travel to Gaffney, SC Sunday for a 2 p.m.double-header against Limestone.
