Baseball COOPERSTOWN, NY – The Area Stars – Derrick walked off with a 5-4 victory Monday over the Flagler Bandits from Florida then pounded the Nevada Elite Gorillas 13-1 to improve to 4-0 in the American Youth Hall of Fame Tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park.

Four members of the Area Stars – Derrick – Ty Mathis, Elijah Bullard, Ryan Johnson, Jackson Wright -are from Elizabethtown.

The Flagler Bandits jumped in front 3-0 before Bullard blasted a solo home run in the second inning. Johnson walloped a home run in the fifth inning to trim the Bandit lead to 4-3.

Mathis knocked in the tying run with a sixth inning single, and teammate Noah Parker drove in the game-winning run. Johnson pitched 3 innings in the victory for the Area Stars over Flagler.

Bullard slammed a double to drive in the first Area Stars run in the victory over the Elite Gorillas. After the Gorillas tied the game in the second, Wright walked and came around to score the go-ahead run on a passed ball.

Mathis lined a single, and Bullard slugged a 2-run homer that grew the Area Stars lead to 6-1 in the fourth. Mathis and Bullard both drew walks and both scored runs in the fifth inning that grew the lead to 8-1. Wright hammered a run-scoring double in the sixth as the final margin grew to 13-1.

The Area Stars –Derrick and the Bullard Knights from California meet at 1:45 Tuesday afternoon in a battle of unbeaten 4-0 teams. At 7 p.m. Tuesday night the Area Stars close out pool play against the 0-4 Wolves from Illinois.
