WHITEVILLE – Corben Chadwick and Luke Bryant teamed up to pitch a 2-hit shutout and strike-out 18 batters to lead Bladenboro to a season-opening 11-0 Waccamaw Middle School Conference victory at Williams Township.
Bladenboro will host Tar Heel Wednesday at Bladenboro.
Chadwick started and struck out 15 batters in his 6 innings of work allowing 2 hits and 2 walks. Bryant struck out the side in a scoreless inning of relief and walked 1.
Gaston Russ drew a walk to start the game, and scored when Chadwick blasted a triple to right-center field. Bryant’s fielder’s choice plated Chadwick for a 2-0 lead.
Bryant belted a 3rd inning single, stole a base and raced home when Cole Brisson yanked a single to left for a 3-0 lead.
Bryant hammered a double to right-center field, and Devan Stanley reached on an error in the 6th inning. Cole Brisson raked a single to left that plated Bryant and Stanley. Andrew Wren reached on an error that scored Brisson, and Wren dashed home on a wild pitch to boost the lead to 7-0.
Russ and Sawyer King belted singles to begin the 7th inning. Chadwick knocked in Russ and Sawyer King with a single. Bryant smashed a single to left-center that plated Chadwick. Stanley and Cole Brisson delivered singles that scored Stanley with the final Bulldog run.
Cole Brisson batted 3-for-4 with 4 runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Bladenboro hitters. Bryant finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Chadwick turned in a 2-for-4 game with a triple, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
Russ, Sawyer King, Stanley and Brooks Carroll connected for 1 hit each. Russ scored twice, and Sawyer King, Wren and Stanley scored runs.
