BLADENBORO – Junior Rowen Simpson and senior Daquan Cox combined on a 1-hitter and struck out 7 batters to lead South Columbus to a 2-0 non-conference baseball victory over West Bladen Thursday night.
Simpson pitched the 1st 6 innings and allowed a hit and 3 walks, while striking out 6. Cox worked an inning of hitless relief striking out 1 and walking 1.
Senior Jordan Hester swatted a lead-off single to left field in the West 4th inning for the only Knight hit in the game.
Freshman Ashton Davis started on the hill for the Knights and worked 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Sophomore Hunter Hester struck out 3 and walked none in his 2.1 innings of no-hit relief.
Cox grounded a single through the middle to start the game, and Jaheim Dixon raked a single to left. Both runners moved up on an infield out, and both scored on wild pitches for the only 2 runs in the game.
The Knights will travel to East Columbus Saturday for a game scheduled to begin at noon.
