BLADENBORO – Freshman Ashley Baiza Rivon knocked in the only goal of the game in the 2nd half off an assist from O’Mara McDonald that lifted West Bladen to a 1-0 non-conference girls’ soccer victory over Whiteville Thursday night.

The Lady Wolfpack had a chance to tie late in the game when they were awarded a penalty kick due to a handball in the box. However, the penalty kick sailed wide.

Senior Briana Carranza Toledo was credited with 4 saves and recorded the shutout in goal for the Lady Knights.

Junior Ashley Sanchez-Resendiz keyed the West defense with 8 steals. Junior Haleigh Seabolt came up with 7 steals, and senior Shamaria Jackson and junior Jazmy Funez Aranda recorded 6 steals each. Sophomore Makenna Thurman had 4 steals.

McDonald fired 2 shots on goal for the Lady Knights. Funez Aranda and sophomore Leidi Zuniga Labra also had shots on goal.

Coach Kristen Parker’s Lady Knights improved to 2-0 on the season and will visit East Bladen Tuesday at 5 p.m.
