A 5-run second inning carried St. Pauls to a 6-3 non-conference baseball victory at East Bladen Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs drew a trio of one-out walks in the second, but Eagle catcher Kyle Tatum threw out the lead runner attempting to steal third base. A dropped fly ball scored a pair of St. Pauls runs. After another walk, Chay Locklear slammed a 2-run double.

With two out in the East Bladen second, senior Alex Coates walloped a triple to deep centerfield then dashed home on a wild pitch.

An error, Aaron Revels’ single and a wild pitch plated a St. Pauls run and pushed the lead to 6-1 in the top of the third inning.

Sophmore Sincere Smith drilled a double into the leftfield corner in the bottom of the third and darted home when junior Kyle Tatum beat out an infield hit to trim the Bulldog lead to 6-2.

East Bladen scored a final run in the sixth inning. Tatum raced to second base on a throwing error, and senior Nikita Owens lined a single just inside the rightfield line that scored Tatum.

Coates tripled and scored a run. Smith doubled and scored a run. Tatum and Owens drove in runs with singles, and Tatum scored a run.

Chay Locklear doubled in 2 runs to lead the St. Pauls hitters.

Dawson Caulder pitched a complete game and struck out five to pick up the win for the Bulldogs. Caulder gave up 3 runs – one earned – on 4 hits, 2 walks and 2 hit batters.

Smith started on the mound for the Eagles and pitched 1.2 innings, giving up 5 unearned runs on 7 walks and a hit while striking out two. Sophmore Xavier Wooten worked the final 5.1 innings for East Bladen and gave up an unearned run on 2 hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out six.

The Eagles, now 3-2, return to Four County Conference action Friday night when they host Clinton.
